USS ASHEVILLE- submarine

April 11 is NATIONAL SUBMARINE DAY. How does that play into Asheville’s history? There have been four (4) US Military Ships named for “Asheville”, the latest being a Los Angeles class nuclear sub. In fact, Asheville Industries Inc, located off Hendersonville Road (see photo) built submarines until the facility closed in 1994..
