Mardi Gras King Cookies: In 1699, Mardi Gras was brought to North America by French-Canadian explorer Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville, who settled  near New Orleans.   Both Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans, are reported to have hosted the first Mardi Gras. Festivities became common by the 1730s, and in 1837, New Orleans hosted its first Mardi Gras parade.
